ELECTRON ACTIVITY
• By analogy with ion activity we have
  electron activity. (ae- )       pE = - log10{ae-}
•
• pE is is a measure of the relative tendency of a solution to accept or donate electrons.
The pE scale is convenient (like pH).
•
• A high electron activity means a low pE.
•
• Water with high electron activity is said to
 be reducing eg anaerobic sewerage digester
 Generally low oxygen concentration. anoxic
• Water with low electron activity is said to
   be oxidizing eg. chlorinated water (POOL)
 Generally high oxygen concentration.   oxic
