Predominant Inorganic Cu Species in Water
(octahedrally coordinated H2O’s not shown)
eg. Cu2+(aq), [CuOH]+(aq)           -  aqueous ions
CuS(s), CuFeS2(s), Cu2CO3(OH)2(s)- suspended   Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2(s), Cu(OH)2(s), CuO(s)   solids
• Analytical methods still have problems
identifying all the species present in water.
At best they determine the major species present using electrochemical methods.
• Equilibrium modelling using KSP solubility constants and measurements will often be used to predict which species are present.
   eg. computer program MINTEQA2
