SOME DEFINITIONS
• Base Neutralising Capacity [BNC]
 [BNC] = [HA] + [H+] - [OH-]
- the sum of all acids that can be  titrated with strong base NaOH to a set equiv. pt.
• The Total Acidity involves titration with NaOH to the phenolphthalein (8.2) end pt.
• The Mineral Acidity of the water involves
titration to the methyl orange (4.3) end pt.
• Acid Neutralising Capacity [ANC]
 [ANC] = [A-] + [OH-] - [H+]
 - the sum of all bases that can be  titrated with strong acid HCl to a set equivalence pt.
