AEROSOL IV
   Mt Pinatubo (1991) SO2 (g,20MT) ® H2SO4(aer)
in stratosphere which reflected sunlight and lowered the world temp. 0.5oC in 1992 - 3.
• CCN Cloud Condensation Nuclei (» 0.1mm)
Aerosol particles are effective in formation of cloud droplets. eg. cumulus r = 1-10 mm
Usually largely NaHSO4, NH4HSO4 & NH4NO3
• Condensation occurs only when p(H2O) > p(H2O)sat.  Very small water particles have higher p(H2O)sat requirements than normal.
• Salt lowers p(H2O)sat over the small H2O particles & so condensatn occurs readily.
• CCN provide a wettable particle of the correct size to initiate condensation.
