• Many
metals are essential nutrients which
only become toxic when present in high
concentration. In
plants for instance :
macronutrients -
K, Mg, Ca
micronutrients - Co, Cu, Fe, Mo, Mn, Na, V, Zn
• Other elements such as aluminium, lead, mercury, cadmium have toxic
effects at low concentrations
- toxic metals.
• Aluminium
we have seen is found in high
concentration in the Earths crust (8.2%) but
only achieves low concentrations in H2O
under normal pH conditions due to a lack
of
solubility, oceans 1 ppb.
