Also called quaternary ammonium herbicides.
Paraquat MSDS: Very toxic by inhalation, ingestion and if absorbed through skin. Possible mutagen. Possible carcinogen.
May be fatal if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Very destructive of mucous membranes. Causes burns.
Note the human LD50 is lots lower 80 mg kg-1
Systemic herbicide, translocates to roots. RR cotton in use in 2003 in Darling Downs. Resistance to glyphosate herbicides has already been confirmed in a species of marstail  found in a Delaware soybean field. Cotton is generally defoliated before harvest using knockdowns such as Paraquat – called harvest aids. RoundupUltra + Cosmoflux 411F used against cocoa plants (often unsuccessfully) in Columbia.
International Convention on the Control of Harmful Antifouling Systems provides that as of 1st June 2003,
