Classification of Insecticides :
(i) OrganoChlorine (OCs) : These are chlorinated hydrocarbon cmpds. GCMS
DDT, Lindane (BHC), Dieldrin, Endosulfan
• Of historical interest mostly & due to their presence in soils and sediments.
• Problems with toxicity, persistence &
biomagnification. All are neurotoxins.
• Endosulfan remains in use, this cyclodiene causes fish kills.  Freshwater limit: 3 ng / L
• It does have lower mammalian toxicity.
