Type I pyrethroids affect Na+ channels in nerve membranes (both sensory and motor) and
give long afterpotential similar to DDT.
[Na] high outside cell, [K] high inside cell.
Powers nerve impulse as K ion channel releases pulse of K+.
Powers the entry of glucose into cells – active transport using Na+.

ORL-HMN LDLO 500 mg kg-1 lethal dose lowest observed
LD of 200 – 500mg/kg reported for DDT oral dose
Still produced in Italy, India, Indonesia around 2800t/yr
1ppm DDT in human fat – 47 cases analysed in UK 1995 - 1997
Endosulfan still registered and used big time for cotton
Malathion is called Maldison in APVMA listing of registered chemicals.
Contaminants include iso-malathion (storage under extreme conditions) LD50 113 mg/kg
O,S,S-trimethylphosphorodithioate LD50 = 20 mg/kg.
