• If all the ozone in the atmosphere were
placed on the Earth’s surface (p = 1atm &
T = 273K) then it would be only 3 mm thick!
• The stratosphere is sensitive to pollutants that speed up the process of removal of O3 as there is a low total amount of O3 present.
• Ozone functions as a radiation shield
without it severe damage would result to life
 on Earth. eg. wipe out phytoplankton.
