ANC AND NAGP
• Acid Neutralisation Capacity (ANC) is the buffering capacity of the soil (carbonates, CEC, BaseCat.Sat.) - titration to pH 7.0
• Net Acid Generation Potential (NAGP): this is used in both ASS assessment and in acid
mine dump waste assessment.
               NAGP = TPA - ANC
• NAGP > 0   [O2] will produce free acid.
• It is useful for estimating the amount of
neutralising agent (lime) to be added to
treat the acidity which will be generated.
eg. sandy deposit: moderate TPA & low ANC may have a significant NAGP.
•BCS =  meq (Ca2+,Mg2+,Na+,K+) / CEC
