2) Peroxide Oxidation – Combined Acidity and Sulphate (POCAS). Used
particularly for partially oxidised
soil layers.
The POCAS method aims to provide a standard
approach for determining the potential acidification of acid sulphate soils.
It measures two indicators of potential acidity the sulphur trail and the acid trail.
• Sulphur trail : a measure of oxidisable sulphur units: S% of the soil dry weight.
S POS % = S P % - S KCl %
S P % peroxide
oxidisable sulphur,
S KCl % KCl extractable
sulphur.
