• Actual
acid sulphate soils : pyritic material disturbed, oxidised and generating acid
Soil pH will be <
4.
• Potential
acid sulphate soils : substantial pyritic material which has not been oxidised Soil pH > 4
(may be neutral or slightly alkaline).
Chemical
Test Criteria used for defining acid sulphate
soils (Victoria and NSW):
• acid
trail
• sulphur
trail
If either chemical test value is exceeded then the soil is an acid sulphate soil.
