CRITERIA FOR A.S. SOILS
• Actual acid sulphate soils : pyritic material disturbed, oxidised and generating acid
Soil pH will be < 4.
• Potential acid sulphate soils : substantial pyritic material which has not been oxidised Soil pH > 4     (may be neutral or slightly alkaline).
Chemical Test Criteria used for defining acid sulphate soils (Victoria and NSW):
• acid trail
• sulphur trail
If either chemical test value is exceeded then the soil is an acid sulphate soil.
