The chemical may: (i) interact with the DNA
in the cell to form a DNA adduct.
or (ii) interfere with a receptor (eg AHH).
or (iii) interfere with protein synthesis.
As a result gene expression is altered.
Gene: a segment of DNA that carries a base sequence that directs
the synthesis of a particular protein, tRNA, or mRNA
