BLANK TYPES
1) Matrix (background) blank:
A sample of media similar to the test sample taken in the same run and at a nearby location to the test samples. Provides the
background level of analyte in the matrix.
2) Field blank: During sampling a sample of analyte-free matrix taken to the site is treated as per the samples. Measures any contamination in the sampling, storage and transport procedure. Impt for VOCs.
3) Equipment (rinsate) blank: Measures any contamination due to inefficient cleaning of
the equipment – checks sampling only.
