BIOCONCENTRATION
• The lower the solubility of
an organic in water the higher
the KOW & the higher the ability
to accumulate in fatty tissues.
• A low solubility non-polar
organic will have a high KOW and generally a high BioConcentration Factor (BCF).
                BCF = [organism]/ [water]
• Given the same functional groups a molecule with higher M.W. will be less H2O soluble and hence will have a higher BCF.
Reconcentration - small high surface area sediment particles will physisorb large quantities of insoluble organic material.
