REDOX CHEMISTRY
• Soil pH can be gauged ‘quantitatively’ by
measuring the pH at a fixed soil: water ratio.
Often CaCl2 0.01M is added to give a pHCaCl2
   soil : water paste 1 : 5
• As in aquatic chemistry
there is a progressive
change in soil EH (pE) as
different substrates are
used in microbial
respiration.
