1) Much crustal aluminium is found in oxy-hydroxide minerals.
These are amphoteric solids
and in the presence of acidic solutions
are turned into Al3+. This ion is present as Al(H2O)63+ in water which releases Al(H2O)5(OH)2+ & H+ in aqueous solution.
Al(OH)3 + 3H+ ® Al3+aq + 3H2O
