You proceed by building up a chart using three types of information.

1) Chemical shift information (tells you the type of group you are looking at).

2) Integral information (tells you how many Hs in the group you are looking at).

3) Coupling information (using the n + 1 rule tells you what the neighbours are of the group you are
looking at).
