Double bond equivalents (DBE) are calculated from the formula:

DBE = (H_2n+2 – H_a) / 2

H_2n+2 is the number of hydrogens in an alkane with the same number
of carbons as the molecule being looked at.
H_a is the actual number of hydrogens in the molecule.
