Solubility The amount of a substance that dissolves in a given quantity of a solvent at a given temperature to form a saturated solution.
Any ions already present in solution will influence the
solubility of an ionic substance that contains ions in common with those
present in
solution – this is called the common ion effect. For instance if there
are two solutions 0.15M NaCl and 0.05M NaCl and we are
trying to dissolve MgCl2 in these solutions then it will be the 0.05M NaCl solution that will have the highest solubility for
MgCl2.
