POLYDENTATE LIGANDS
• There are also many polydentate
(or multidentate) chelating ligands which bind through more than 2 donor atoms.
• To act as a polydentate ligand the ligand must be sterically capable of attaining a suitable geometry around the metal ion and must have its donor atoms spaced so that the stable chelate rings (usually 5- or 6-membered) result on coordination.
