2A HYDROXIDES
• Be(OH)2 and Mg(OH)2 are quite insoluble in
water and can thus be precipitated from
  aqueous solutions.
• The insoluble nature of these hydroxides
   reflects their covalent character.
• Ca to Ba  hydroxides are soluble in water.
Solubility:  ionic salts generally dissociate
in water (to form electrolyte solutions)
whereas non-ionic compounds
must solvate as whole molecules.
