1) What is the
difference between a lyophillic colloid and a lyophobic
colloid?
A lyophillic
colloid is a “solvent liking” 1 phase system. If the dispersion medium is water the colloid
will be polar
eg. protein+H2O
A lyophobic
colloid is a “solvent hating” 2 phase system. The colloid will either be
non-polar or completely insoluble
eg. mineral particles in mud.
