General Properties of Colloids
Most colloids are cloudy or
opaque. Light is scattered
because the wavelength
(l » 500nm) is comparable
to the particle size.
Tyndall effect
Viewed from the side a beam of light is broad
and visible when passed thru a colloid.
Whereas through a soln it is nearly invisible.
eg. monodisperse Au colloid
