SALTS & ACID CHLORIDES
• Water soluble Carboxylic acid salts are formed by rxn of the acid with alkaline base.
  eg. CH3COOH + NaOH ®  Na+ CH3COO-
• Name: derived from the carboxylic acid where the suffix -ate replaces -ic acid.
 eg. sodium acetate or sodium ethanoate
• Acid Chlorides are highly reactive carboxylic acid derivatives.
• Name: derived from the carboxylic acid where the suffix -yl chloride replaces
-ic acid.    eg. CH3C(=O)OH ®     CH3C(=O)Cl
acetyl chloride or ethanoyl chloride.
