H CONTENT METHOD
• Reduction of an organic molecule usually corresponds to increasing the H content
or to decreasing the O content in the molecule.
 
• Oxidation corresponds to increasing the O
content or to decreasing the H content.
More generally oxidation corresponds to
increasing the content of any element more
electronegative than C in the molecule.
