Properties of
Optical Isomers:
• The relative
arrangements of the atoms in the
molecule is the same in each of the optical isomers (they are just
mirror images)
• The physical and
chemical properties of
enantiomers (optical isomers) will therefore be essentially identical - unless the environment is chiral.
• Separation of
optical isomers involves chromatography
using chiral resolving agents or fractional
crystallization.
