CHIRALITY
• Optical isomers (or "enantiomers") display left- or right-handedness.
• They are said to possess "chirality"
 (Greek chiro “hand”)

For a molecule to be chiral, it must not
possess certain symmetry elements:
  • plane of symmetry
  • centre of symmetry
  • 2-fold rotation axis
